Soon after the concept was decided, The Biscuit Bar was born. “We had a good biscuit recipe, but now we have a great one,” Jake said. The final product is a biscuit that’s firm enough to stand up to the different fillings while also keeping that fluffy texture everyone looks for in their doughy treats.

It took months, and according to Jake, thousands of different biscuits to find the perfect recipe. So they constructed a do-it-yourself “biscuit bar.” The couple saw how much people loved the sandwiches and knew they had a practical concept unlike anything else in the area. When feeding the large group of hungry relatives while also caring for their newborn daughter, Blake, the couple wanted to create something easy where everyone could help themselves. After losing two of their triplets and staying on bed rest for months, Janie and Jake’s family wanted to be around them and bring them a bit of comfort. The couple, however, experienced unforeseen tragedy. They then started dating, got married and started a family of their own. They went to the same church in Colorado and grew up as family friends. Janie and Jake have known each other since they were eight years old. “I was driving by after Chips opened and saw they had so much foot traffic, so we knew we wanted to be here.”Ĭomfort food holds a special place for the Burketts. “We loved the area when we saw it,” co-owner Janie Burkett said. With a straightforward menu – biscuits, tots, and taps – and a upscale yet comfortable interior, it’s easy to settle into a seat on their picturesque patio or grab a stool at their bar.

The Biscuit Bar, a new comfort food-centered restaurant, opened its doors this month at The Boardwalk in Granite Park.
